PCC candidate Watts wants to introduce Cyberwatch scheme
POLICE And Crime Commissioner candidate for Northamptonshire Sam Watts has revealed he will implement a Cyberwatch scheme should he be elected on 5 May.
The scheme would ultimately see any member of the public have the opportunity to be trained by the police online, before being a permanent helping hand to the force using the internet.
They will be able to assist the police in monitoring crime trends and patterns in specific communities, with no commitment in terms of time needed by the member of the public in question, with absolute flexibility from the process being available wherever you are your phone may be.
Ahead of the election the 36-year-old UKIP candidate explained the purpose of the scheme and the reasons behind it, he explained: “There are many people who want to help the police and protect their loved ones, but may find it difficult to physically attend meetings or patrol their neighbourhoods through traditional schemes.
“Online or cyber crime is a growing threat to our way of life and the police often find they are playing catch up.
“This scheme would work well in partnership with Neighbourhood Watch which I have pledged to help and support if elected PCC here in Northamptonshire.
“This is a very inclusive scheme and something we can set up with minimal cost.”
Speaking to CitiBlog this week, Councillor Watts who represents Burton Latimer criticised the approach of the current ‘politicised’ tenure of Adam Simmonds, he said: “The problem with existing schemes is they are reactive to issues that arise.
“With a proactive force that is working closely with people we serve, the general public, we can nip these emerging problems in the bud before they become major ones.”
The elections for Police and Crime Commissioner take place on Thursday, 5 May.
