One in and one out at Sixfields as goalkeeper David Cornell signs for Northampton Town
Northampton Town have signed goalkeeper David Cornell from Oldham Athletic, and let back-up stopper Ryan Clarke join AFC Wimbledon.
25-year-old Cornell, who has been capped by the Welsh U21 team and called up to the senior squad, has signed on a 2 year deal. The Swansea City academy graduate joins after not having his contract renewed by the side from Boundary Park. He played 14 League One games for Oldham last season.
Meanwhile, 34-year-old goalkeeper Clarke leaves by mutual consent after just one year at Sixfields. Clarke spent one year with Northampton Town after signing on a free transfer from Oxford United, where he’d previously spent 6 years playing. But with Adam Smith in fine form, Clarke was only able to make 4 cup appearances, and he duly leaves one year into the 2 year deal he signed last summer.
The arrival of Cornell makes him Northampton’s fifth signing ahead of their return to League One. He follows Alex Revell, Paddy Kenny, Raheem Hanley, and Aaron Phillips into the club.
