Mark Lancaster, the Conservative MP for Milton Keynes North, has claimed the UK will ‘prosper’ after voting to leave the EU, despite warning of potential short-term problems.

Mr Lancaster was initially undecided on how to vote, but then campaigned to remain as part of the European Union.

The result in Milton Keynes was very similar to the overall outcome with 51.4 per cent voting ‘Leave’ and ‘Remain’ getting 48.6 per cent.

Following the vote Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned, with Boris Johnson the favourite to replace him in October.

And Mark Lancaster says he will do all he can to protect Milton Keynes in the short-term while the economy settles.

He said: “I fully accept the result and have no doubt that the UK will prosper outside of the EU in the medium term.

“I am concerned that there will now be some short-term economic turbulence and my priority will be to do all that I can to protect Milton Keynes from any negative impact this decision could have on our local economy.”
