MK Dons striker Simon Church is through to the quarter finals of EURO 2016 with Wales after they beat Northern Ireland this afternoon.

Church didn’t feature for Chris Coleman’s side as a Gareth McAuley own goal from Gareth Bale’s cross made history for the country.

Former Dons loanee Jonny Williams came off the bench and was heavily involved in the final 27 minutes of the match.

Ex-Dons youngster George Williams is also part of the Wales squad, but is yet to feature.

Defeat for NI means defender Lee Hodson will return to Milton Keynes without playing a single minute during the tournament in France.

Wales will now play either Belgium or Hungary in Lille on Friday for a place in the semi-finals of the competition against Poland, Croatia or Portugal.

As for other Dons contributions at the European Championships, former academy star Dele Alli will be playing for a place in the quarter-finals when England take on Iceland on Monday night.

Alli, 20, has so far featured twice at the competition in a 1-1 draw with Russia and the 2-1 victory over Wales in the group stages.

He sat out Roy Hodgson’s men’s dour goalless draw against Slovakia on Monday which meant they only finished second in Group B.

EURO 2016 results today:

Switzerland 1-1 Poland (Poland win on penalties)
Wales 1-0 Northern Ireland
