MK Dons sign defender Paul Downing from Walsall
MK Dons have confirmed the signing of defender Paul Downing from Walsall on a free transfer.
The Dons will sign Downing upon expiry of his contract with the side from the Bescot Stadium later this week. Downing, who is 24, has signed a 2 year deal at stadium:mk, and is the second signing of the summer for Karl Robinson’s side after the earlier signing of midfielder Ed Upson.
Speaking to MK Dons PlayerHD, Downing confirmed his delight to move, and that he was swayed following a summer meeting with Robinson.
He said, “I’m delighted to be here. This is a great Football Club and it’s going to be a good challenge for me – I can’t wait to get started.
“I came down to meet Karl in the summer and I was really impressed with the philosophy he has here at the Club. He instantly sold the place to me and after a look around I knew it was the move for me.”
Downing’s move ends a four year stint with Walsall, who he joined in 2012 after being released by West Bromwich Albion, where he began his career. In all, he played 133 league games for the Saddlers, scoring four. He also was a first choice player in Walsall’s team that finished third in last season’s League One and made the play-offs.
