Northampton Town will face Coventry City, Wycombe Wanderers and West Ham Academy in the EFL Trophy.

The Cobblers’ draw in the tournament’s new format places the team in Southern Group D. The controversial change will see three group stage games before a knock-out round. The group stage organisation will see Northampton play 2 home matches and 1 away.

The first fixture will take place in the week beginning August 29th, and will see the Cobblers face Wycombe at Sixfields. Northampton then travel to face Coventry in the week beginning October 3rd, before welcoming the West Ham Academy to Sixfields in the week beginning November 6th.

The newly promoted Cobblers will face fellow League 1 side Coventry City. Northampton beat Coventry in the First Round of last season’s FA Cup, but that is the only meeting between the two sides since 1990. They will also face League 2 outfit Wycombe Wanderers, who the Cobblers beat home and away in the 4th tier last season.

The draw’s Category A academy team is Premier League side West Ham United. The Hammers finished 7th in last season’s Premier League.

Northampton had initially been drawn to face the Hammers side away, but the tenancy agreement for West Ham at the Olympic Stadium meant the Hammers could not use their new stadium. As a result, the game will be played at Sixfields.
