Defender Luke Shaw has been ruled out of Manchester United’s League Cup clash with lower league Northampton Town, according to the Press Association.

Jose Mourinho criticised the full-back for his role in United’s 3-1 defeat to Watford in the Premier League over the weekend when his side lost for the third game in a row.

It is reported that Shaw picked up a slight groin tear during that match and will now be forced to sit out the televised EFL Cup clash against the Cobblers at Sixfields.

Earlier it was claimed Paul Pogba, David De Gea and Eric Bailly are all likely to be rested for the game meaning there could be several changes to Mourinho’s team tomorrow night.
