Luton continued their chase for automatic promotion with a 3-0 win over struggling Hartlepool United.

The Hatters held a two goal lead inside the opening 13 minutes of the contest, with Luke Gambin playing a key role. The January signing from Barnet first set up Danny Hylton for the opening goal, and then hit a firm drive into the bottom corner to put Luton 2-0 up.

The third goal came late on in the second half, with Ollie Palmer registering it inside the final ten minutes. The deadline day signing from Leyton Orient struck his first Hatters goal when he tapped in a loose ball from all of 3 yards.

With Carlisle able to beat leaders Doncaster, the result means that Luton remain three points behind third spot in the League Two table. The result is also Luton’s 5th home win in 6 outings, following on from Saturday’s late comeback victory over Crawley Town. It adds up to a satisfactory prequel to consecutive meetings with the top two for Luton fans, with the Hatters’ next matches seeing them take on Doncaster and Plymouth in their next outings.
