Newport Pagnell dumped out of FA Vase by South Shields
Newport Pagnell Town’s adventure in the FA Vase was ended by a heavy 6-1 defeat away at South Shields.
The Swans had scored early on in the North East but saw a goal disallowed, and then found themselves 4-0 down within 25 minutes. David Foley, Wayne Phillips, Dillon Morse and Robert Briggs struck the goals to give the hosts a comprehensive advantage.
A Gavin Cogdon brace then rubber-stamped the home side’s progress, with Elliott Sandy registering an 88th minute consolation.
The result means South Shields take the place on offer in the FA Vase semi-finals. As for the Swans, the side from United Counties League Premier Division can hold their heads high following their historic run to the Quarter Final stages for the first time in the club’s history.
In the competition’s other ties played today, Cleethorpes Town won 5-2 away at Southall, and Coleshill Town won 2-0 over Sporting Khalsa. Bromsgrove Town play Buckland Athletic in the final tie tomorrow. (19/02)
