Northampton Town have confirmed the sale of defender Rod McDonald to relegated side Coventry City for an undisclosed fee.

McDonald made 29 starts for the Cobblers during his two year spell at Sixfields but was transfer listed at the end of the season.

The Sky Blues have acted quickly as they try and strengthen their squad to earn an immediate return back to League One.

Justin Edinburgh told the club’s official website: “Rod has found first team opportunities limited.

“We were honest with Rod at the end of the season. We said that because he hadn’t played as much first team football as he would have liked he was available to move to another club.

“We are working hard to improve the squad over the summer and we believe it is in the best interests of all parties that Rod makes this move.

“We wish Rod every success in his future career.”
