Shrewsbury away to start Northampton’s season
Northampton Town will start the 2017/18 season by facing Shrewsbury Town away from home.
The fixture release earlier today (21/06) confirmed that the Cobblers shall begin the new season by taking on the Shrews in the season’s first game, which will be on August 5th. Shrewsbury finished 18th in League One last season, finishing two places below Justin Edinburgh’s side. Northampton took four points off Shrewsbury last season, winning 4-2 in Shropshire and drawing 1-1 at Sixfields.
Northampton’s second league game of the season is against Fleetwood Town at home on August 12th, in a rerun of last season’s opening game. The opening month is rounded off by games against Charlton Athletic and Peterborough United. The Cobblers’ first Nene Derby clash with the Posh is at Sixfields on August 26th, with the reverse fixture occurring on Easter Monday.
Meanwhile, the Cobblers’ first clash against MK Dons will be on September 26th at stadium:mk, with the side from Milton Keynes visiting Sixfields on January 20th. Northampton will also face Oxford on November 11th at the Kassam Stadium, with the reverse clash at Sixfields happening on February 24th.
On Boxing Day, Northampton will face newly promoted Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium, and they will then end 2017 by facing last season’s League Two champions Portsmouth. The Cobblers travel to Fratton Park on December 30th, before being in action again on New Year’s Day, when they will face Wigan at home.
Northampton will play their final match of the season against Oldham at home on May 5th 2018, with their final away match of the season being against Walsall the week before.
