An early strike from Aidan Nesbitt proved the difference as MK Dons beat 10 man Plymouth to win their first away game of the new season.

Nesbitt struck after 9 minutes at Home Park. The deadline day signing from Celtic scoring his first goal in England after controlling a right-wing cross and firing in off a post.

Plymouth then had midfielder Graham Carey sent off just after the half-hour mark for a heavy challenge on Gboly Ariyibi.

MK Dons’ best chances for a second came in the opening half, with Osman Sow, Alex Gilbey and Ousseynou Cisse seeing efforts narrowly miss the target. However, the visitors struggled to create chances to extend their lead in the second period.

Plymouth’s best opportunities saw Nadir Ciftci hit the bar with a first-half free kick, while Joel Grant blazed wildly over the top in the second period.

Nevertheless, the Dons kept the hosts out to take their first points away from stadium:mk of the new season, and their second League One win. The points lift the team up to 15th in the developing League One table, ahead of a trip to Peterborough on Tuesday.
