Trio of first half goals sees Luton past Newport
Three first half goals proved pivotal as Luton Town picked up a 3-1 win over Newport County.
Alan Sheehan struck the game’s opening goal with a free-kick that deflected in. He was then joined on the scoresheet by Danny Hylton, who struck a brace. First, the striker flicked in James Collins’ cross, before Hylton struck from 12 yards after handball by Ben Tozer.
The Hatters had further chances in each half to pick up a wider winning margin. As it was, the game’s fourth goal was for the Exiles. Newport captain Joss Labadie scored it, with the visiting skipper striking the ball in at a corner.
It continues a positive sequence of form for Nathan Jones’ side, who are now unbeaten in five matches as they sit 5th in the fledgling League Two season. The side will look to continue this run of form in the Checkatrade Trophy against Barnet on Tuesday, before travelling to face 3rd place Accrington Stanley in their next League Two fixture.
