A first half Sam Hoskins goal proved decisive as Northampton beat Blackpool to secure back-to-back wins.

The strike, which was Northampton’s 750th league goal at Sixfields, came in the first half as Hoskins flicked an errant Matt Grimes shot into the back of the net.

Northampton had come close beforehand, with Daniel Powell having a shot saved and Chris Long firing wide from a tight angle, while Long also came close shortly after.

Blackpool had a lot of possession but their best chance to get on level terms saw Aaron Pierre clear off the line after Callum Cooke’s shot had gone beyond Matt Ingram. But the Cobblers missed a great late opportunity for 2-0 as Hoskins saw an effort skim just wide.

The result sees Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side add to last week’s win at Gillingham to pick up their 4th win of the season in League One, ahead of the league taking next week off.

Northampton’s next outing will be the FA Cup First Round tie against Scunthorpe, with their return to league football seeing them face Oxford on November 11th.
