Northampton Town and Scunthorpe United are to replay their FA Cup First Round tie after a goalless draw at Sixfields.

The Cobblers had the better of the early opportunities in a clash between two third tier sides, and the home side struck the goalframe twice in the opening minutes. Aaron Pierre saw a header rebound off the bar, bounce on the line and run free, and then within a minute, a Lewis McGugan free-kick clattered off the post and ran free.

Pierre would also see a header cleared off the line by Lee Novak in the opening period, while Regan Poole and McGugan saw efforts also come close.

The second half was scrappier but Northampton did still have some chances, with substitute Marc Richards going wide. Scunthorpe’s best chances saw Josh Morris denied by David Cornell while in added time, Cameron Burgess headed wide when well placed.

But with no winner found in 90, it means that both sides will enter the hat for the second round draw on Monday, and a replay will be needed to decide who will compete in Round Two.
