Northampton to face Portsmouth in Checkatrade Trophy
Northampton Town have been drawn to face Portsmouth away in the Checkatrade Trophy.
The draw means a trip to Fratton Park for the Cobblers, who qualified from second place in their group. The match will take place in the week beginning December 4th, which takes place between FA Cup Second Round weekend and the Cobblers’ trip to Oldham Athletic on December 9th.
Portsmouth came out top of a group that also featured Charlton Athletic, Crawley Town and the Fulham Academy side, with the South Coast side winning two of their three games and drawing the other before losing on penalties.
Meanwhile, the Cobblers booked their progress by winning all 3 group stage games on penalties, seeing off Cambridge, Peterborough and the Southampton Academy side – the latter coming after a dramatic comeback from 3-0 down.
Northampton have faced Portsmouth in a regular League One match this season, with the Cobblers winning 3-1 in Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s first game as manager.
