Chesterfield sign George Smith from Northampton
League Two side Chesterfield have signed left back George Smith from Northampton Town.
The Spireites have signed Smith on an undisclosed fee, with the defender signing an 18 month contract at the Proact Stadium.
The deal was confirmed after the 11pm transfer deadline, and is Chesterfield’s fourth transfer deadline day signing after the previous arrivals of Barnsley duo Dylan Mottley-Henry and Jacob Brown, and the Shrewsbury Town attacker Louis Dodds.
Smith had joined Northampton in the summer from Gateshead for an undisclosed fee, having previously played for Barnsley. He made 10 appearances in all competitions for the Cobblers, with the last of them coming in the New Year’s Day defeat to Wigan Athletic at Sixfields.
The deal concludes a busy transfer window for Northampton Town in their first under new manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, with the League One side having signed 9 players over the course of the month while seeing 9 depart the club.
