Local KFC restaurants closed after chicken shortage
KFC restaurants in the Milton Keynes area have been closed after nationwide trouble with the chain’s chicken supply.
The American fast food company has had to close the majority of its UK and Ireland outlets after delivery problems, which the company has blamed on “operational issues” after the company recently switched its delivery contract to DHL.
In Milton Keynes, the chain’s stores at XScape and at MK1 have been closed since Saturday. Originally, their branches at Westcroft and Stacey Bushes had remained open, but the two restaurants no longer appeared on KFC’s list of open shops in the UK as of 9pm on Monday. (19/02)
In a statement, KFC said, “We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex!
“We won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours.
“We know that this might have inconvenienced some of you over the last few days, and disappointed you when you wanted your fried chicken fix – we’re really sorry about that.
“Shout out to our restaurant teams who are working flat out to get us back up and running again. Hope to see you in our restaurants soon.”
It is as yet unclear when the issues will be resolved and restaurants will re-open.
In a statement to the BBC, DHL said, “Due to operational issues, a number of deliveries in recent days have been incomplete or delayed. We are working with our partners, KFC and QSL, to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience.”
