Luton Town took a big step towards promotion to League One as they came from behind to beat Crewe 3-1 at Kenilworth Road.

Midtable Crewe had struck first through Jordan Bowery, but the home side lead at the break through goals from Danny Hylton and Elliott Lee.

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu’s goal minutes after the restart – his first of the season – then sealed the points. The result means Luton are one win away from promotion, although promotion will also be confirmed if Exeter lose their midweek match with Chesterfield.

An open contest saw both sides miss early chances, but it was visitors who would be first to take one, as Bowery took advantage of a failure to intercept by Alan Sheehan to run forward and beat James Shea.

Luton were behind for all of four minutes, before Hylton turned in a corner. He would then be joined on the scoresheet by Lee, who cut inside before firing a curling effort beyond Shea.

Mpanzu then struck the host’s third goal moments after the restart, with the Luton player firing a 30 yard thunderbolt into the back of the net.
