Luton return to winning ways by edging out Exeter
Luton Town returned to winning ways in League Two with a 1-0 win over Exeter City at Kenilworth Road.
After a home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in the week, Nathan Jones saw his side recover to beat the Grecians.
Harry Cornick struck the game’s only goal, with his strike coming a few minutes before half-time.
Cornick had earlier been denied when he struck the post, but the midfielder opened the scoring when he received a through pass from Dan Potts before seeing a shot deflected into the back of the net.
Luton were the side with the majority of the chances in the contest. Before the opening goal, Jake Jervis saw two efforts miss on his Luton debut while James Collins hit the post with a cross-shot.
Olly Lee had an effort saved by Christy Pym just after half-time, while Pym also denied Luke Berry and further attempts from Jervis and Danny Hylton went wide of the mark.
Exeter’s best shot at an equaliser fell to Kane Wilson, who saw a late strike from distance kept out by Marek Stech as Luton recovered from their midweek loss.
The result means Luton maintain an 8 point lead on 2nd place Wycombe and a 9 point advantage over 3rd place Notts County in the League Two table, although both the Chairboys and Magpies have played a game less.
