MK Dons manager Karl Robinson happy the team’s game plan against QPR paid off
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson was happy with the execution of his side’s game plan as the team beat QPR.
Dean Lewington and Ben Reeves scored the goals that got the Dons the three points against the West London side. While Rotherham and Charlton both won, the Dons keep their heads above the bottom three and pick up valuable points.
Speaking to the media after the match, Robinson said he was pleased to get the rewards after pacifying QPR in the first-half and then taking their chances in the second half of the game.
He said, “We didn’t want to be out of the game in the first half. We’ve had good halves but I thought today we were very disciplined in the first half and sensational in the second.
“We showed our appetite and desire, and our players gave 100% effort and dedication, and I can’t ask for anymore. I’m proud of them.”
Some Dons fans became nervous when Josh Murphy missed a penalty after 85 minutes, but the Dons recovered and the Dons boss was happy things did not end in a concession.
He said, “I thought the way we conducted ourselves after the miss was exceptional. We could’ve fallen off the wagon and made it easier for QPR, but we stuck to our guns and our discipline. The players gave a good for in the second half, and after missing the penalty.”
Robinson also added his relief Reeves’ penalty went in, and was hopeful of more going into a match with Charlton on Tuesday.
He said, “I thought when he hit it the ball was going over. Once it went in I was happy and hopefully we can use this going into a massive game on Tuesday.”
After conceding late goals in recent games against Huddersfield and Blackburn, some fans had been worried, but Robinson said the team lacked luck in those games and the team this time showed a dominant showing to see off the Hoops.
He said, “There’s no consistent way to the reasons we concede a goal, be it Jordi Gomez scoring a worldy from 30 yards or a ball bouncing the wrong side of Kyle McFadzean and landing for Nahki Wells. We just hadn’t had the right luck in the final third and a real lack of luck in the last five minutes.
“But today we looked dominant throughout and looked very comfortable at the end of the game.”
