Cobblers sign non-league hotshot Leon Lobjoit
Northampton Town have confirmed the signing of prolific non-league striker Leon Lobjoit from non-league Buckingham Town.
The 22-year-old striker joins after a two week trial at Sixfields, during which he scored for the reserves against Peterborough in a friendly. He has scored 62 times in 36 appearances for the 10th tier side this season.
The transfer will take place in the summer, with Northampton spending an undisclosed fee to bring the player in from Buckingham.
Lobjolt has previously been on the books of MK Dons and Coventry City. He has signed a two year contract with Justin Edinburgh’s side.
Edinburgh told the official Northampton Town website he was delighted to confirm the signing, having been impressed by the player’s goalscoring record, attitude in trial, and desire to make the step-up from non-league.
He said, “He has a phenomenal goalscoring record this season and his attitude since coming in has been first class. Leon knows this is an important opportunity for him and he is determined to take it.
“We are delighted to give a player performing brilliantly in non-league football locally a chance. We know he will be making a big jump in standard so we will be patient with him, but we feel he has got all the attributes to be a success and we look forward to working with him.
