A goal from Kieffer Moore was the difference as Northampton were beaten 1-0 away at Rotherham United.

Moore struck the winner shortly after half-time, with the Millers’ top scorer scoring the rebound after Matt Ingram had denied Shaun Cummings’ initial attempt.

The home side had the majority of the contest’s opportunities, with Ipswich loanee Moore seeing a couple of efforts blocked. The striker had early strikes blocked by both Cobblers centre-backs, and also hit the bar late on. Michael Ihiekwe also saw one effort denied by Ingram near the end of the first half, while late efforts from Jonson Clarke-Harris and Will Vaulks also failed to give Rotherham a larger winning margin.

Northampton had seen a few early chances, with Daniel Powell and Alex Revell having efforts go off target. Their best chances to equalise saw home goalkeeper Marek Rodak deny Powell and sub Billy Waters, while Dean Bowditch had an effort deflected wide. But they were unable to prevent their scoreless run being extended to over 400 minutes.

The Cobblers sit 3rd from bottom after 11 games. They will look for greater rewards on Tuesday, when they face Peterborough in the Checkatrade Trophy, before returning to League One action by hosting Bristol Rovers.
