MK Dons had to settle for a share of the points with their fellow strugglers Fleetwood Town as they drew 1-1.

MK Dons struck the opening goal in the contest at Highbury, as Robbie Muirhead put them in front. Ashley Hunter equalised for Fleetwood in the early stages of the second half. The result means back-to-back away draws for the Dons after a stalemate with Rochdale on Wednesday night, but are still waiting on a first league win of 2018.

The visitors made a positive start against a Fleetwood side that had sacked manager Uwe Rosler after a recent losing run, and sat above the drop zone at kick-off.

Muirhead saw one shot blocked and another saved by Alex Cairns. But they would be ahead after 20 minutes, with Muirhead driving home after Chuks Aneke pulled the ball back for the Scottish attacker.

Fleetwood began to came back into the contest in response, with Conor McAleny hitting a post and Lee Nicholls denying first Kyle Dempsey and then Ashley Hunter.

The hosts equalised just under 10 minutes into the second half, as Hunter struck home a curling effort just moments after Cairns had denied Ike Ugbo from finding the net at the end of a run.

With both sides in trouble, the two teams pressed for a decisive goal. For the Dons, Ousseynou Cisse and Callum Brittain saw efforts go wide, while at the other end, Nicholls kept out McAleny twice while Paddy Madden failed to make contact when well placed.

But there was to be no winner, and the points were split. The result means the Dons remain 5 points from safety.
