Luton lose ground on Accrington after Newport draw
Luton Town have lost ground on League Two leaders Accrington Stanley after they drew 1-1 with Newport County.
With Accrington beating Forest Green Rovers, Luton now sit 3 points behind the leaders, having played a game more. They are also 5 points clear of 3rd placed Notts County, who drew with Mansfield, and the same amount clear of 4th placed Wycombe Wanderers, who beat Barnet.
Newport struck first when Josh Sheehan reacted faster to a loose ball than the away defence to beat Marek Stech after the Luton keeper had saved Aaron Collins’ initial attempt.
Luton began to grow into the contest after that, and moments after Joe Day denied Olly Lee’s deflected attempt, Dan Potts and Luke Gambin were thwarted at the resulting corner.
It was Potts who drew Luton level in a lively first half, as moments after Stech denied Robbie Willmott and Scott Cuthbert headed over, Potts turned in a corner.
But after a lively first half, the second half saw much less take place, and the two sides were forced to settle for a point apiece.
