Luton confirm second place with Forest Green Rovers win
Luton Town have confirmed their second place finish in League Two as they wrapped up their home programme with a 3-1 win over Forest Green Rovers.
Victory for Accrington Stanley over Lincoln confirms the leaders would win the league, but the result also ended any mathematical chance they could be caught by Wycombe Wanderers, who confirmed their promotion by beating Chesterfield.
Late goals confirmed the result, with Olly Lee and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu striking late goals after Christian Doidge had cancelled out Danny Hylton’s opener.
Luton had opened by pressing, and after Cameron Belford had already had to make early stops, the home side took the lead when Hylton followed in the rebound after James Collins was initially kept out.
Doidge bought the visitors level after half-time when he was given space in the area and beat the home goalkeeper.
Forest Green Rovers then had chances to grab their own second, but it was Luton who picked up the game’s third goal when Lee slickly placed Harry Cornick’s cross into the back of the net.
A fine strike from Mpanzu then added a further strike for the hosts late on, and ensured a fine end to the home matches for the campaign for Nathan Jones’ side.
