A 1-0 win for Brackley Town was enough to book the Saints’ place in the National League North play-off final.
The game at St. James’ Park went to extra-time, after a tight opening 45 minutes failed to provide a winning goal.
An extra time goal from Aaron Williams was the strike that proved ultimately decisive in the contest between the sides that finished third and seventh during the regular season. The goal saw Williams convert the rebound after an initial strike was blocked.
Danny Lewis’ late save to keep Nicky Wroe off the scoresheet then kept the home side’s lead intact, and having held out, it means Brackley Town advanced.
The result means that Brackley will advance to face Harrogate Town, who beat Chorley 2-1 in the other game in the National League North play-offs.
Brackley will travel to Harrogate next Sunday in a one-legged final, with the winner following league champions Salford City in the National League for the 2018-19 season.
