Luton begin League One return with Portsmouth away
Luton Town will begin the 2018/19 season and their return to League One with an away game at Portsmouth on the weekend of August 4th.
The match will kick-off the Hatters’ first campaign as a League One club since 2008, and will begin by playing opponents who finished 8th in the League One table last season. The Hatters’ most recent meeting with Portsmouth saw them knock the South Coast side out of the FA Cup last November.
Luton’s second game will see them face Sunderland on August 11th, in their first away game in the third tier in 30 years and after the Black Cats endured back-to-back relegations. The tie will be played in the week before their previously drawn Carabao Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
Their opening month also includes an away match against Peterborough United, and clashes with Southend United and Shrewsbury Town at Kenilworth Road.
On Boxing Day, Luton face Scunthorpe United away from home, and they will then conclude 2018 by facing Walsall away. New Year’s Day sees the Hatters open 2019 by facing Barnsley.
By contrast, the Easter double header will see the team face fellow League One new-boys Accrington Stanley on Good Friday, and a home meeting with AFC Wimbledon on Easter Monday.
The season wraps up for Luton on May 4th with a home match against Oxford United, with the final away game being against Burton Albion the week before.
