Northampton Town have begun their pre-season with two wins from two, as Dean Austin’s side won 2-0 at Silbey Rangers and 4-0 at St Albans City.

The Cobblers began their warm-ups ahead of the new season with a trip to Sileby on Thursday night (05/07).

Both of the goals would come in the game’s second half, with the first coming from academy graduate Morgan Roberts via a post, and the second coming from Sam Foley.

Roberts’ deadlock breaking effort came in the final 20 minutes of normal time. Before then, the visitors had seen the bulk of their opportunities come in the first half.

During the match, Austin elected to field different teams in each half, and the Cobblers manager also did this for the clash at St. Albans, which was played on Saturday (07/07) and moved forward to accommodate England’s World Cup Quarter Final.

Daniel Powell gave the Cobblers a quickfire 2-0 advantage, with the winger scoring twice in the opening ten minutes. His first came in via a deflection, before he was able to fire home a second.

Powell was denied from a further chance to pick up a first half hat-trick. The Cobblers would have to wait until the other side of the hour mark for their third goal, which would eventually come from Billy Waters.

Waters would grab his own double during the second half, with his first seeing him capitalise on a through-pass and his second seeing him curl a drive inside the far post.

Northampton continue their pre-season schedule with two games in two days later this week. The first is against FA Trophy winners Brackley Town on Tuesday (10/07), and is then followed up on Wednesday (11/07) by a trip to face Chelmsford City.
