MK Dons’ first team began their pre-season with a 5-1 victory away at St. Neots, in their first full game under Paul Tisdale.

After a mix of reserve and junior players began their pre-season commitments with a 3-0 win at Newport Pagnell Town under Edu Rubio, the first team made their bows in Bedfordshire.

They took a first half lead through Sam Nombe and Aidan Nesbitt. St. Neots pulled one back through Dion Sembie-Ferris, but further goals from Dylan Asoganyi, Kieran Agard and George Williams extended the visitor’s winning margin.

A lively start saw the Dons create chances before striking first, as Nombe converted Peter Pawlett’s through ball. He was then joined quickly on the scoresheet by Nesbitt, who curled the ball into the back of the net after a set piece routine.

Tisdale made 11 changes at half-time as he seeked to get a full look at his new-look squad, but it was St. Neots who got the game’s third goal as Sembie-Ferris saw a strike deflected past Wieger Sietsma.

The Dons then also lost half-time substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante to injury. His place was taken by Asonganyi, who immediately followed up a strike at Newport Pagnell with a 30-yard goal in this contest to re-establish the visitor’s two goal lead.

This was the cue for more chances for the Dons to add gloss and they eventually did with two goals in the final minutes. The first saw Agard strike a penalty after Williams had a shot handled, before Williams finished the scoring late on.

MK Dons continue their pre-season on Friday, as they travel to face FA Trophy winners Brackley Town.
