Cobblers make it 3 straight wins by seeing off Crewe
Northampton Town picked up their third straight win in League Two as they beat Crewe Alexandra 2-0.
A goal in each half did the trick for Keith Curle’s side, as Andy Williams and Daniel Powell scored the goals. The result moves the Cobblers above their opponents in the League 2 table, as they rise up to 15th.
Northampton made the brighter start and after Kevin van Veen had one effort blocked and Sam Hoskins saw one effort go over, it was Williams who put them in front.
van Veen was the architect, with the attacker intercepting a loose ball, rounding the exposed goalkeeper Ben Garratt and passing for Williams to beat a defender on the line.
It was the home side who had the better first half opportunities, with Williams seeing an effort denied by Garratt and Shaun McWilliams saw a curling effort rebound off the crossbar.
Crewe began to apply more forward moves after half-time, as Oliver Finney had a shot blocked by David Cornell.
Northampton came close to a second when John-Joe O’Toole hit the post, before substitute Powell then made sure of the points late on.
O’Toole was then involved in the move that wrapped up the points for the home side. His work saw her pass for Powell, who converted to seal the home side’s win.
