Luton Town have been handed an away tie against Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup Third Round.

The tie in South Yorkshire will take place on the weekend of January 4-7, at a date to be confirmed.

The Hatters are in the Third Round of the tournament for the third straight season, after knocking out Wycombe and Bury in their opening two rounds.

Nathan Jones’ outfit will be hoping to go further than both of those campaigns, having been knocked out by Accrington Stanley in 2017 and by Newcastle in 2018. For the third year in a row, they face an away tie at this stage.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently sitting in 16th position in the Championship, and have been a second tier side since being promoted from League 1 in 2012, although they were beaten in the play-offs to get into the Premier League in 2016 and 2017.

The two teams last faced one another in the Championship in the 2006-07 season, with Luton winning both fixtures home and away against the Owls. The more recent of the two was a 3-2 win in February 2007.
