Luton maintain second spot with Coventry away win
Luton Town have maintained their hold of second place in League One with a 2-1 win at Coventry.
Having moved into the automatic places with their win over Fleetwood Town last weekend, victory at the Ricoh Arena saw Luton maintain an advantage over Sunderland.
Matthew Pearson and James Collins were the goalscorers, with Luton as a result taking their sixth straight win in the third tier as part of a greater run of nine unbeaten.
A penalty from Jonson Clarke-Harris in second half added time saw Coventry reduce the deficit, but the away side held on to take the win.
With Portsmouth dropping points at Barnsley, it meant that Luton move to 4 points behind leaders Portsmouth, and they maintain a one point advantage over Sunderland.
Coventry may reflect things could have panned out differently had they had a goal allowed with the scores goalless. Jordy Hiwula thought he had forced the ball over the line, but after consultation, the officials ruled it hadn’t and the game remained 0-0.
Luton then took the lead late in the first half when Pearson received Sonny Bradley’s knockdown at a corner and turned the ball into the goal.
It was Collins who then doubled the lead. The striker scored against his hometown club when he poked in Elliott Lee’s cross.
Coventry were given a penalty late in added time when goalkeeper James Shea fouled a home player that had rounded him once, and Clarke-Harris sent the goalkeeper the wrong way. But Luton had already done enough to keep their good form going.
