Northampton Town picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town as the two sides exchanged late goals.

Both sides missed chances in the opening 85 minutes and it looked as though the game would end as a goalless event.

But Northampton then took the lead late on when sub Andy Williams turned the ball over the line, only for a fine strike from Yoann Arquin to ensure the home side equalised quickly.

Northampton will sit 14th in League Two on Christmas Day after going three games unbeaten.

A low quality first half saw very few chances fall the way of either side.

Jordan Green saw an effort blocked by David Cornell while Rhys Browne had a shot deflected wide in some early chances for the hosts.

A few half-chances did fall the way of Kevin van Veen in Northampton’s best chances, but it looked like the game was set to end goalless until the late drama.

With time running out, Northampton then found themselves ahead. A long ball from Shaun McWilliams saw Williams break free of the home side’s attempts to play offside, and he was duly able to advance and score.

But Yeovil would soon equalise. A fine half-volley from Arquin from distance flew high into the air and in via the bar, as Yeovil picked up a point.
