Northampton Town have confirmed two loan signings in their week, as they signed midfielders Timi Elsnik and Joe Powell.

Powell joined the club on Monday (21/01) on a season long loan from West Ham United.

The move is the 20-year-old’s first senior loan move, although he has played in the Carabao Cup for the West Ham senior team and has scored 7 times for the Hammers’ youth side this season.

Speaking about his new signing to the official Northampton Town website, the club’s manager Keith Curle said, “Joe is a talented creative midfield player.

“He likes to play in the opposition half of the field, he likes to get on the ball to open up defences and to create things. Joe has a fantastic attitude, a hunger to do well and he is excited by the challenge of regular league football and doing well for us.”

On Friday (25/01), the Cobblers then also confirmed the signing of Elsnik, who joins from Championship side Derby.

Elsnik moves after spending the first half of the season at the Cobblers’ fellow League 2 side Mansfield Town.

The Slovenian scored 4 in 24 matches earlier this season, having also scored 5 times in a loan spell at Swindon Town last season.

Curle also said, “Timi did really well at Mansfield who are a team chasing promotion. He was also a big success at Swindon before that and we are delighted to bring him in.

“He is technically good, he is a footballing midfielder who is excellent on the ball and he fits in with our plans and the way we want to play.”
