Luton Town extended their lead at the top of League One with a single goal victory over struggling Bradford City.

Jack Stacey scored the game’s only goal during the first half as the Hatters extended their unbeaten run in League One to 24.

With second place Barnsley drawing at home to Sunderland, they now have a 5 point lead to the Tykes.

The result also saw Luton quickly return to winning ways after a draw at Plymouth over the weekend.

In West Yorkshire, Luton took the lead inside the opening 16 minutes. Stacey scored the goal, with the Hatters man played in by Andrew Shinnie and able to dispatch a shot beyond Richard O’Donnell.

Luton pressed in the early stages, with Stacey denied by O’Donnell in a similar move to his goal, Shinnie firing wide from range, and Elliott Lee denied by O’Donnell following a goalmouth scramble.

Nat Knight-Percival failed to turn Hope Akpan’s header from a free-kick on target in Bradford’s best chance, but Luton still had chances, with substitute Luke Berry and James Collins both off-target.

Danny Hylton headed just over moments into the second half as Luton still looked to try and extend their advantage.

Bradford did probe more as the game continued, with Akpan seeing a long-ranger fly over and James Shea able to race off his line to nullify an attempt by David Ball to get in on goal.

However, Luton were able to contain their opponents, and picked up another three point haul towards their promotion bid.
