Luton Town have maintained their unbeaten run in League One by beating Doncaster Rovers 4-0 at Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters made it 26 unbeaten with the result, with goals from Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, Danny Hylton, Kazenga LuaLua and Luke Berry.

Luton’s result saw them maintain a 5 point lead on second place Barnsley, who had beaten struggling Walsall in a lunchtime kick-off. They also hold a 9 point lead on 3rd place Portsmouth, who leapfrogged Sunderland in the table.

The goal haul also took Luton up to 50 goals in home league games this season – the highest in the EFL.

After a balanced start with both sides have chances, Luton took control of the contest and would take the lead through Mpanzu just after the half-hour, as he received LuaLua’s backheel then swept the ball into the bottom corner.

Following that, Luton began the hunt for more, as Hylton saw two efforts go wide in the final moments of the opening half and another hit the post just after the restart.

The striker would then land a breakthrough a few minutes before the hour, as he got the final touch when Berry sent a ball towards goal from Jack Stacey’s cross, with the number 9 taking the credit.

Luton still had opportunities, with Elliot Lee striking the crossbar and having a further effort saved.

Doncaster had arrived in the play-off places, but struggled to get chances in the second period, and fell further behind with time running out as LuaLua received Stacey’s pass before drilling home.

Luton would have a fourth in stoppage time, as Berry ran forward and then drilled a shot home from the edge of the box to grab his goal, and continue Luton’s exceptional start to 2019.
