Northampton Town have confirmed the release of 8 players and 3 further can depart after the release of their retained list.

Club captain David Buchanan, along with regular squad picks Jack Bridge and Sam Foley, head the names that have been released. Attacker Dean Bowditch and defender Shay Facy are another duo who have also left the club.

Luke Coddington, James Goff and Joe Iaciofano will also leave Northampton Town following the end of the season.

As well as these initial eight, Ash Taylor, Billy Waters and Joe Bunney have been told by the club that they are all to be made available for transfer and can leave Northampton in the upcoming transfer window.

Northampton also confirmed that Daniel Powell has been offered a new contract and John-Joe O’Toole has the option to stay, but that the club are waiting for a decision either way from the midfielder.

A core group of David Cornell, Sam Hoskins, Shaun McWilliams, Junior Morias, Aaron Pierre, Jordan Turnbull and Andy Williams have been retained under contract for 2019/20.

The club’s manager Keith Curle told the official Northampton Town website, “It is never easy telling a player that they won’t be offered a new contract but it is part of the job.

“Of course, we wish all of the departing players well and wish them every success with their ongoing careers, but my job here is to take the footballing side of the club forward and there needs to be changes made.”

Curle also confirmed that Northampton have already began to make moves to bring in new faces ahead of the new season, which will start on August 3rd.

He added, “In terms of recruitment, we have been doing our homework and we have identified new signings who we think will help take the club forward.

“We are in advanced talks with some of our targets and their agents and we hope to be able to confirm the first new arrival later this week.

“We won’t be drawn in to bidding wars this summer, we will have a value on any player that we think is fair and if they aren’t happy with that, maybe they aren’t right for us and we will move on. Value for money will be a big factor for me this summer.

“It will be a busy couple of months for us, we have a big summer and pre-season ahead.”
