Northampton Town have announced a home friendly against Championship side Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the new season.
The Cobblers will play Steve Bruce’s Owls in their first home friendly ahead of the new season, with the meeting between the two sides taking place on July 16th as a 7:30pm kick-off.
Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship during the 2018-19 season, finishing 10 points off the 2nd tier’s play-off spots. Bruce took over at the club as manager in February.
The two sides last met competitively in 2010, when Wednesday beat Northampton 3-2 in the FA Cup.
Northampton had previously announced they will also warm up for the new season with two further home friendlies. These will take place against the Owls’ city neighbours and Premier League new boys Sheffield United on July 20th, and against League One newboys MK Dons on July 26th.
As well as these matches, Northampton will also have pre-season friendlies against non-league sides Sileby Rangers and Brackley Town away from home as part of their schedule ahead of the new season.
