The Milton Keynes Bonsai Society are proud to present the city’s second Annual Bonsai Show, which will take place on July 13th.
Featuring the best trees from Milton Keynes’ very own Bonsai club and supported by some of the finest trees from clubs in the surrounding regions, it promises to be the highlight of MK’s burgeoning Bonsai scene.
Following on from last year’s inaugural show, the event will once again take place at Milton Keynes Central Library on Silbury Boulevard, just a short hop over the road from the Centre MK shopping centre. The show will run from 10:00 to 15:30.
From Bonsai enthusiasts to absolute beginners, there will be something for everyone, and if you have never had the chance to see Bonsai, it can be a very unique experience to witness a quality Bonsai for the first time.
For the uninitiated that may have only ever seen poor quality, mass produced trees in a corner of a garden center, it can very different to see miniature versions of majestic and craggy old Scots Pines, dramatic Juniper with sculptural deadwood or beautiful, delicate Acers that might be a hundred years old.
The MK Bonsai Society has promised that there is nothing they love more than educating people about the wonders of Bonsai and there will be lots of the group’s friendly club members on hand to talk about the trees or give advice on how to get involved.
The Bonsai scene in the UK, and indeed all over Europe, is booming as more and more people discover this beautiful Japanese art form. As it spread outside of Japan, each country has brought local trees into the art and there are now amazing examples of Oak, Hawthorn, Elm and various other versions as well as the more ‘traditional’ Japanese Pines, Junipers and Acers.
Indeed, many people don’t realize that Bonsai aren’t a special variety of tree or a species in themselves, they are in fact ANY tree that has been cultivated and kept in a container in a miniaturized form.
New for this year, the group will have a demonstration area where club members will show you some of the techniques involved on their own trees as they work on them.
In addition, the Northants and Milton Keynes branch of the British Cactus and Succulents Society will be providing us with an impressive display and an insight into their horticulture practice.
Any further information about the show or the Milton Keynes Bonsai Society can be found on Facebook or on Instagram under #mkbonsai, where the group regularly posts pictures of trees and the latest goings on in our world!
