Luton draw Cardiff in Carabao Cup after knocking out Ipswich
Luton Town will play Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup Second Round after beating Ipswich Town 3-1 in Round One.
A much changed Hatters side got the better of the League One Tractor Boys at Kenilworth Road, in a tie that saw the two sides made a total of 21 changes from their most recent league outings.
Luton went on their way to victory early on, as Lloyd Jones and an Elliot Lee penalty put the home side 2-0 up inside the opening 12 minutes.
An Andrew Shinnie goal within the opening ten minutes of the second half then settled the game as a contest, with a deflected Armando Dobra goal providing a consolation for the side from Suffolk.
Luton found out their rewards in a Second Round draw on live TV made moments after the matches finished, which produced a second trip in quick succession to face Neil Warnock’s side from South Wales.
Cardiff received a bye to the Second Round of the competition by virtue of being one of the higher placed of the sides relegated from last season’s Premier League.
The Welsh side beat Luton at home a few days ago, as former Hatters striker Isaac Vassell struck a late winner in a 2-1 win for the Bluebirds.
The match in South Wales will take place in the week beginning August 26th, with fixture details to be announced in due course.
