Defeat at Sheffield Wednesday sees Luton continue wait for win
Luton Town were beaten 1-0 by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough as they continue to wait on a first win back in the Championship.
Kadeem Harris bundled the ball in to win the game for the Owls, for whom victory sees them move to the top of the table.
Luton had enjoyed first half chances in South Yorkshire, but their inability to take them cost the visitors.
The result means Luton are still waiting on a first victory in a league game back in the second tier.
The Hatters had started positively, with Ryan Tunnicliffe blazing over and Kieren Westwood denied Kazenga LuaLua.
An error by Westwood then nearly yielded goal for the visitors, with the keeper recovering after a poor clearance to tip over Andrew Shinnie’s volleyed return.
Wednesday did have chances in a relatively low key first half, with Simon Sluga denying Harris and Jacob Murphy in the opening period.
Having rode through that, Wednesday took the lead a few moments into the second half. After a Sluga clearance was intercepted, a cross by Jacob Murphy was headed back across goal by Steven Fletcher to Harris, who touched it in.
From there, Wednesday looked likelier to score, with Fletcher having one shot just drift wide and also another beat Sluga only to be disallowed for offside. But ultimately, one goal proved enough.
