MK Dons defender George Williams said the team needed to make the most of their form at home as his team made it 2 home wins from 2.
The defender spoke after the team saw off Lincoln City at stadium mk, with Williams scoring.
With the Dons looking to make a good start on their return to League One, Williams looked for the side to make the most of their home form, and praised the fans for their efforts.
He said, “I think firstly we were really disappointed with the Wycombe result, so it was important to put them right. But we need to make this place really uncomfortable for teams to come. We didn’t dominate possession but we got the three points and we need to make this place a fortress.
“The fans were brilliant. They showed up on a Tuesday night, and we’re really thankful for that. I think in that last 5-10 minutes, the fans were non-stop and it does give you a push and drive to keep going, and they were brilliant.”
When talking about his goal, Williams admitted it was a blur, though he did say the chance came about by a call for the wing-backs to make more attacking moves.
He said, “In all honesty, my memory’s a bit bad. I remember Jordan hit it, and I was on the floor trying to put something on it to steer it in. I managed to do so, but I need to look at it back as its all a bit of a blur to be honest.
“We did work on the training ground about switching play with wing-backs, as you saw with Callum’s goal. So funnily enough, we did work on it and it was good for him.”
With the Dons losing both meetings with the Imps as the two sides vied for promotion last year, Williams said Lincoln brought a different challenge to the previous season, but that the team did well to repel it.
He said, “When you really think about it, it was a really satisfying win. They beat us twice last season, and came here top of the league, so we knew it was going to be a big and tough game.
“They’ve changed the way they play a bit. They’re more expansive and get on the ball a bit more, and we knew coming out for the second half they would be really fired up, and there would be a challenge.
“But our formation allows us to go defensive at times as well as expansive. It was a good and solid second half performance and I’m glad we got the three points.”
