Northampton book place in FA Cup Round 2 with Chippenham win
Northampton Town booked their place in the Second round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over non-league Chippenham Town.
The Cobblers avoided a banana skin in Wiltshire, as Harry Smith and a Vadaine Oliver double in the first half secured the win.
The result means Northampton avoided an upset against the National League South side, and advance into Monday’s second round draw.
Northampton began in a busy manner, coming close when Nicky Adams was denied by Will Puddy in the Chippenham goal and Oliver headed the rebound against the bar.
Alan McCormack then saw a further effort deflected away by Puddy when it threatened to find the goal. But Northampton then swept ahead, as Smith headed in the consequent corner.
It would then be 2-0 within quick succession, as Oliver headed in Adams’ cross.
Puddy would also be called on to keep out Charlie Goode, before Northampton scored a third in first half stoppage time when Oliver flicked in a cross from Adams.
The game would ultimately see less intensity, as Northampton booked their spot in the FA Cup’s second round.
