MK Dons lost out on Burton Albion, as they were beaten 1-0 by Nigel Clough’s side at the Pirelli Stadium.
Liam Boyce’s first half goal was the only one in the contest, as the home side moved into the play-offs and the visitors failed to put further daylight between themselves and the relegation spots.
The Dons saw a lot of the ball and had chances, but they couldn’t find a way through to cancel out Boyce’s opening goal as they sunk to a first loss since a defeat at Gillingham before Christmas.
Boyce had already tested Lee Nicholls in the opening stages of the contest with a strike from distance. The Dons had begun to get back into the game, but Boyce opened the scoring after 20 minutes.
It came moments after Joe Mason had seen a shot saved, from which Burton advanced quickly and the ball was eventually worked up for Boyce to score after he found space on the edge of the penalty area.
MK Dons did have chances to equalise before the half-time break, as Callum Brittain saw a strike go wide, Rhys Healey had an effort saved, and Conor McGrandles hit the bar with a free-kick.
10 minutes after the game restarted, Carlton Morris was denied by Kieran O’Hara as he had a strike saved.
For most of the second half, MK Dons had a lot of possession of the ball, but struggled to break through Burton’s defensive block, and were ultimately unable to prevent defeat.
