Luton Town were beaten 3-0 at home by Brentford as they were beaten by last season’s Championship play-off runners up.
The Hatters had beaten Brentford in February on the West Londoners’ last visit to Kenilworth Road, but this time they had no response after Rico Henry and Ivan Toney put Brentford 2-0 up by the half hour mark.
Substitute Marcus Forss made it 3-0 late on in the game, as the Bees took the points for the trip back down south. The result means Luton are now on a streak of 1 win in 5 since returning from the October international break.
Danny Hylton fired wide in an early chance for Luton, but the Hatters fell quickly behind after Brentford scored two goals in 9 minutes.
Henry scored the first goal of the afternoon, as the left-back intercepted a clearance from Sergi Canos’ cross and fired a low shot past Simon Sluga.
9 minutes later, Toney added to his recent hot streak by making it 2-0. The former Peterborough striker’s 9th goal of the season came after Canos played in Bryan Mbeumo, who in turn crossed for Toney to tap in.
Canos would have a shot blocked, as the Bees continued to hold the upper hand.
Luton shuffled to a back four at half-time, but although the Hatters played better after the break, the best chance saw Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu have one deflected wide.
Brentford put the result beyond doubt when Mathias Jensen released Forss, and the substitute chipped Sluga to give the visitors a third goal.
Things could’ve got worse for the hosts when Josh Dasilva fired over when well placed and Henrik Dalsgaard’s deflected strike was saved by Sluga, but a 3-0 defeat was ultimately sealed as the Hatters were left to lament a home defeat.
