Northampton Town have signed midfielder Bryn Morris on loan from Portsmouth.

The 24-year-old is the third new signing at the PTS Academy Stadium in the January transfer window, following last week’s arrivals of Mickel Miller and Ryan Edmondson.

Morris has signed a loan deal with the Cobblers until the end of the season.

Northampton manager Keith Curle told the official club website that he had been tracking Morris in the past, and he was delighted to bring him on board.

He said, “Bryn is a player I have known about for a long time. When he was at Middlesbrough and I was at Carlisle, I tried to sign him and I have followed his progress closely since.

“He is an all round midfield player. He can win the ball, recycle possession, he can play a pass and he can open teams up.

“He is only 24 but he has good League 1 experience and a good League 1 pedigree, having played in the League 1 play offs twice in the last three seasons.

“I think he will benefit from the move as will we. I am pleased to welcome him to the club.”

Morris joined Portsmouth from Shrewsbury in 2019, and made 18 appearances in all competition this season, having only made 10 appearances in his first two seasons at Fratton Park.

Before then, he was an academy graduate at Middlesbrough and spent further time out on loan with Burton Albion, Coventry, York and Walsall, plus a further loan period at Wycombe while at Shrewsbury.
