Northampton Town striker Harry Smith has left the club to join Scottish side Motherwell on loan.

Smith has joined the Scottish side on loan until the end of the current season, with the club confirming that he will be in the squad for their weekend match against Aberdeen, subject to international clearance.

The 25-year-old striker joined Northampton in 2019 from Macclesfield Town, and had made 21 appearances this season, but leaves after the January arrivals of new strikers Ryan Edmondson and Mickel Miller.

Northampton manager Keith Curle told the club’s official website that the club had been subject of interest for him, and that the club had no longer been able to guarantee him regular game time.

He said, “We have had a lot of interest in him from clubs in League 1 and in League 2 and in Scotland and this is a move that appeals to him.

“I think a change of scene will do him good. Like all strikers, he wants and needs to be playing every week and I explained to Harry that I was not in a position to guarantee him as much game time as he may have wanted over the next few months.

“It is in everyone’s interests that he goes out, plays first team football and hopefully does well for Motherwell and scores some goals.

“As we do with all of our players who go out on loan, we will of course be monitoring his progress closely.”
