MK Dons won 2-1 at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light in their first meeting of the current season back in November.
The Dons’ progress into this stage of the Papa John’s Trophy saw them come out on top of a group featuring Northampton, Stevenage and the Southampton U21’s, while Sunderland’s own course saw them advance out of a group Fleetwood, Carlisle and the Aston Villa U21’s, before winning knockout ties against Oldham and Port Vale.
