Luton beat Birmingham 1-0 at St Andrews as they were able to see off the challenge of the struggling Blues.

Dan Potts struck the only goal for the Hatters in the 31st minute of the contest. The result sees Luton are now 9 points clear of relegation, and the same margin off the play-offs above.

The result ends Luton’s three game winless run and is also Luton’s 5th away win of the season in the Championship – all of which have been by a 1-0 scoreline.

Luton had the better chances in a cagey opening period, with James Collins hitting a strike into the side netting and Neil Etheridge denying Matty Pearson at a corner.

What would turn out to be the only goal would come just after the half hour, as Potts headed home after an initial Collins shot was charged down.

Etheridge would then deny Jordan Clark not long after, with Luton having the better chances of a scrappy opening period.

Birmingham’s only registered chance on target came shortly after half-time when Gary Gardner headed an effort at Simon Sluga.

The hosts introduced the more physical attacking presences of Lukasz Jutkiewicz and January arrival Sam Cosgrove but they would be unable to break down Luton’s rear-guard as the visitors returned to Bedfordshire with 3 extra points to their account.
